The Case of Needing a Savior
Human situations are hopeless. So many corrupt practices by politicians that affect specially the lives of the most vulnerable. War, disease, etc. is still a daily event despite advances in all fields. And Hitler thought about the things he did as the one that can save humanity. So is Marx philosophy reflected in so many human and governmental plans until now. Those were just recent major turning points in world history. There were still so many in the distant past like the Aztec's human sacrifices.
But God's version of saving the world is through his son becoming a human being through our Lord Jesus Christ. This christmas there is not anything perfect about the Catholic mass I attended. Historian's can comment that Liturgy of the Word is just a reading of questionable historical facts. There is nothing special about the holy mass that it can survive being scrutinized. Then what makes the eucharist endure despite its members being imperfect and sinful? It's Jesus Christ's command to do it in remembrance of him! Catholics obey the Son of God to celebrate it as part of the continuing salvation he will be doing until the end time comes.
Why the Birth of Jesus Matters | Knowing Is Doing
Our experience of being limited in our capacity to develop our career specifically, most often ends in surrendering to God because we don't know what to do anymore after all the failed plans all throughout our life years, a personal testament we fully agonize which points to our just being a limited creature.
Well, we all can say to God, your plan sucks. But what's the better alternative do you have in mind? This is God's plan. We might not understand it perfectly, but it is our faith that points us to hope in God's promise of salvation, despite blatant corruptions, advanced sciences that can't still solve plastic problems, M.A.D. gridlock, religious differences, social issues, etc.
Merry Christmas is a greeting of hope that we are not God, yet loved by God. We tend to rebel but is called to humble acceptance of the basic design of this life, however it stinks. That we can become gods like Jesus, testifies to that possibility: a politician who started going against the formidable corrupt system, scientists continuing to discover solutions to modern problems despite lack of fundings, ultra rich giving away their billions to fund charity works... And so I found the Christmas responsorial Psalm correct after only reflecting on it. "Kahit saa'y namamalas tagumpay ng nagliligtas." "All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God."-Psalm 98:3
I thought earlier, where? Almost all news depicts its contrary, bad news left and right. That testifies to our hopeless situation since the beginning of time. Yet we just need to look at those people who have testified to the truth of God's saving act. It is possible to become a good person. And those people are like gods, almost impossible to have existed. And so hope is blowing the ember of hope that's still in our hearts, continuing the salvific plan of that first christmas night to push on to the future, and having faith that God has not abandoned humanity, that he is really Emmanuel, the God who is with us.
Merry Christmas!
